A Couple Thoughts

One…Dove Real Beauty Sketches.  You are more beautiful than you think.

Two…Patton Oswalt. (His full post can be read here.)

“When you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, ‘The good outnumber you, and we always will.’”

A couple thoughts that are constantly running through my head at the moment.

Nimrod

I don’t know too much about classical music. I know that I like it.

Junior year of high school, Mr. K, my orchestra conductor, was going to take a leave of absence once the school year was over. He chose some of his favorite pieces to play for the end of the year concert.

My favorite classical piece to date was the piece we ended the concert with…

Nimrod (from Enigma Variations) by Edward Elgar

(3:48..always gives me the chills)

Mr. K started crying during the piece. (As did I and about half the other musicians in my school orchestra.) Tears coming from a man that put fear in my heart every morning during practice.

I’ve never forgotten that performance and how it felt to this day.

Fall Is Here

Fall is here.  Not in the weather sense since it’s still pretty warm here in SoCal, but I mean more in the TV sense.  I looked at my DVR last night and lo and behold…new episodes of NCIS and NCIS:LA were on my DVR.  Fall is definitely back.

Some new shows interest me, but one effective trailer that perked my ears (and eyes…thank you Scott Speedman) was for a military drama called Last Resort coming out on ABC.  The song they used for the promo was pretty cool and haunting.  It’s titled “Nothing But The Water (I)” by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.

Downton Abbey Season 3

September 16th…Downton Abbey is back on in the UK.  January 6th…here in the US on PBS Masterpiece. Season three.  Previews below.  One from iTV, and the other from Masterpiece, respectively.

Looking forward to the verbal jabs between Shirley MacLaine and Maggie Smith.
